Galaxies
- A galaxy is a collection of stars, dust, and gas bound together by gravity. - Earth science book page 596.
- There are three different types of galaxies :
- spiral : bulge at center and spiral at arms.
- elliptical : big blobs of stars.
- irregular : galaxies that don't fit in any other class.
- What galaxies are made of :
- billions of stars and some planetary systems also.
- some stars in galaxies also form clusters.

Stars
- Stars can be classified by size, mass, brightness, color, temperature, spectrum, and age.
- Some examples of stars are: main-sequence, giants, supergiants, and white dwarf
- Main-sequence : a star in the second stage of its life cycle
- Giants : a star in the third stage of its life cycle, can be up to ten times larger than the sun.
- Supergiants : A star in the third stage of its life cycle, can be up to 100 times larger than the sun
- White dwarf : small, hot, dim star that is the leftover center of an old star- earth science book page 591
- supernova : gigantic explosion in which a massive star collapses and throws its outer layers into space. - Earth Science book page 594
- Neutron star : star that has collapsed under gravity to the point that the electrons and protons have smashed together to from neutrons. - Earth Science book page 594
- Pulsar : rapidly spinning neutron star that emits rapid pulses of radio and optical energy.
